Otu Okon Ukam (born October 12, 1988), professionally known as Reckon, is a Nigerian-American singer, songwriter, and record producer from Cross River State, Nigeria. Born and raised in Nigeria, he later relocated abroad to pursue his dreams. He is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) in Management at Valdosta State University in Georgia, USA.

Reckon's music blends traditional African sounds with R&B, soul, pop, and contemporary Afrobeats. His musical style reflects his appreciation for African culture, personal experiences, and his belief in the importance of originality and artistic expression.

His musical journey began in his village church choir, where he developed his vocal abilities and discovered his passion for music. As a teenager, he performed at weddings, talent shows, and community events, gradually building his confidence as a performer. At the age of 16, he began writing and performing his own songs at social events. He later joined forces with friends to form a musical group called KINGS SQUAD, which performed locally before eventually disbanding.

In 2010, Reckon moved to Asaba, Nigeria, in search of new opportunities to develop his musical career. By 2012, he had released his first single, "Eyes on You," which gained local popularity and opened doors to performances with Hot Cash Entertainments and Earthquake Records.

In 2013, he relocated to Lagos, where he worked as a security guard while continuing to pursue music and participate in local talent shows. Despite the challenges of balancing work and his musical ambitions, he remained committed to developing his craft.

In 2015, Reckon auditioned for TECNO Own the Stage, a music competition featuring prominent African music personalities, including Yemi Alade, Bien of Sauti Sol, M.I Abaga, and Eva Alordiah. Although he did not reach the finals, the experience strengthened his determination to continue pursuing his musical aspirations.

In 2016, Reckon moved to Dubai, United Arab Emirates, before relocating to the United States in 2019. Upon arriving in the U.S., he joined the choir at Pot of Gold Outreach Ministry Church in Georgia, where he continued to develop his musical abilities while adjusting to life in a new country.

In 2021, he released the singles "This Love" and "Turn By Turn," followed by his debut six-track EP, Self-Affirmation, in 2022. The project featured songs such as "I Wanna Love You," "Best Day," "Far Away," and "Different Currencies."

In January 2024, Reckon released "Believe," an inspirational single centered on hope, faith, and perseverance. The song encourages listeners to remain hopeful and trust that their prayers will be answered in due time.

In November 2024, he released his second EP, No Luck, Just God, a nine-track project reflecting his musical growth and versatility. The EP features "Ulong," "No Luck, Just God," "Good On You," "Take Care," "Adimpiano," "One And Only," "No Blame Me," "Bills On Me," and "Dine And Wine."

Blending themes of faith, resilience, love, and celebration, the project showcases Reckon's ability to combine meaningful messages with contemporary African rhythms. Its opening track, "Ulong," is a high-energy party anthem featuring the line, "Owenbe party hina efop, Ulong everywhere."

The stage name "Reckon" has a personal history that dates back to the artist's early years in Nigeria.

While growing up in his village in Cross River State, he came across the word "reckon" while reading the Oxford Dictionary. Fascinated by the word and its meaning, he adopted it as his stage name.

The English word "reckon" can mean to think, believe, suppose, calculate, or count. These meanings give the name a distinctive identity, reflecting both thought and belief.

For Reckon, the name is more than an artistic identity. It is also a connection to his humble beginnings and a reminder of the journey that began in his village long before he pursued music internationally.
